Client Focused The Trauma Centre began five years ago to offer a free counselling service to male and female adult survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence and childhood sexual abuse.  The service was free to all survivors and provided by professional volunteers.

Our history goes back much further, as Denise was the founder and manager of The Survivors (Hull & East Riding) charity, which ran for over 20 years.

In July 2019, Denise was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for her widely recognised therapeutic and advocacy work and leadership in supporting victims of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual abuse. Her early associations with the military and working in Germany inspired her work with ex-military personnel suffering from the effects of PTSD, and early on recognised the absence of professional support for male adult survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence.

This Heritage from The Survivors helps to guide the work that we do today at The Trauma Centre.
